Survived and Thrived at Burning Man 2025

To say this year's Burning Man put my brand new Olive Drab green Basecamp through its paces is a severe understatement - more severe than the dust storms and days of rain.

During the worst of the dust storm, the Basecamp felt incredibly solid. Even without having a chance to ratchet strap the side supports, none of the sides popped back in. It felt eerily solid from the outside chaos.

It handled the rain with no problem. I did have a 3rd hexagonal party footprint. The multiple options for airflow were great. My fan + hydroponic exhaust fan solution for airflow was good enough with the wall ports.

The best thing for me, being in a camp of 50 people where there were at least 20 other shiftpods, was my satisfaction in the build quality compared to the the ShiftPods. While the largest shiftpod is amazing for space, my partner and I were incredibly happy with the thoughtful touches and overall build quality - especially at the price point currently offered.

Some minor dislikes: when dust piled up on some of the velcro window covers, the current design of them resulted dust falling directly into the interior space. Also, a queen sized mattress fills the space up and if placed on a raised cot-like bedframe - a bit much for two people also sharing the space with other things to store.

Having these tents able to be hub'd together with some sort of connector would be an elite add-on as I would love to have another Basecamp, even maybe the solo, as a separate storage and/or sleeping area. Or maybe an XL version of the current size. A friend's mother (bless her) bought him the giant shiftpod with the porch overhang and it was a palatial spacious place. Maybe not the target demo for those not needing creature comforts but cannot lie that more square footage is a premium that I'd pay extra for!

Base camp standard is Superior

We purchased this tent and have not been disappointed with it at all. We added the weather pack with ground cloth and this has been the best tent we have owned in our 32 years of marriage. Want to stand up and get ready no issues, want to sleep in, no issues with the sun waking you up. Need space for all the wife's stuff, no issues. The fit and finish of this tent is amazing and the new ventilation windows down low and up above really do work amazingly well. I have recommend this tent to many people who have asked about it while in campgrounds, you will get asked about it and a great icebreaker with neighboring campers.

Buy this tent!

I’ve used this tent in all weather extremes. It’s very rigid and holds up against 50mph wind gusts in the desert with no issue. The rain fly keeps it completely dry during rainstorms. Using a diesel heater, it held up great against freezing cold temps in Yosemite (10-15 degrees) . The top vents and doors allow enough ventilation to feel nice and cool during the summertime. Overall I’m very impressed with this tent, the owner Mark is very friendly and helpful with answering questions and taking care of any issues. The tent itself is really 1 minute to set up, probably 10min max if you’re staking the tent and rain fly together.

Positive Review for Basecamp Standard Overland(ish) Tent

The Basecamp Standard Overland(ish) tent truly sets a new standard for quality and durability in the camping world. From the moment you unpack it, the craftsmanship is immediately evident. This is not your average tent. The materials used are top-tier: the heavy-duty canvas feels built to withstand the elements, while the zippers, seams, and reinforcements all speak to a level of thoughtful design and construction you rarely see anymore.

Setting it up is straightforward, and once it’s up, it feels incredibly secure, no flapping in the wind. It holds up beautifully in both hot and cold conditions, and the ventilation system is smartly designed to keep the interior comfortable year-round.

In short, the Basecamp Standard Overland(ish) is not just a great tent, it’s one of the best on the market today. For those who value rugged reliability, high-quality materials, and a tent that’s built to last, this is the one to get.
